Middlefinger

Disclaimer: I realize that if this is all i have to rant about lately then i'm in a pretty good space. I had written on a post it note  'Middlefinger' as an idea for a blog post awhile back. I recently found it in being used as a bookmark and decided it sounded like a good idea since I had no other.

1. The Tea Party and Republicans and this whole government shitdown. What is this? The 12th day?

2. And all the pundits talking about it too.

3. We quit getting the newspaper because The Tribune for some stupid reason can't keep our subscription ongoing without interruption or renewal in Brian's checking account.

4. The upside of that is our newpaper carrier didn't know we had not been paying since last May (and neither did Brian because unlike me, he doesn't look at his statement). Now that i think about it, maybe he DID know but gave it to us anyway since we always left him a $6 tip at the beginning of the month. (He used to leave me these great hand written thank-yous for those tips, he was a somewhat mentally challenged adult, but no dummy!)

5. I'm a sucker for thank-yous. You've heard my rant before. Lately my nieces and nephews have been great though. They have heard my non-thank you rants from the past. If i am going to take my time and venture out shopping at the mall for a wedding present or baby present, when i HATE to shop, the least the recipient can do is send a Facebook thank you.

6. I am back on blood pressure medication. I went off in July (same month that i quit getting allergy shots after 34 years!) while on vacation and kept checking it and it was normal. But now, even with working only an 18 hour week, i need them again. 154/103 was the highest reading this evening. (Though i should not complain after hearing about a friend of a friend getting a heart transplant this week.)

7. I can't run so it might have something to do with that. It's been two weeks. But i'm thinking it's work. I hurt my foot while laying beauty bark two weeks ago. I think i pulled something in it by pushing hard on the shovel for those 6 hours. I went out last night and did it anyway but it really felt bad. I'm afraid i'm getting near the end of my running days. I know i love to say i hate running. But in truth i would totally miss it if i couldn't. It has been making me cranky.

8. Miley Cyrus. She used to be a rather nice role model for awhile there. Now look at her. She's the worst. Miley makes Madonna....well..... almost look like the real Madonna. It's sickening when musical artists have to hype up their image to that degree which degrades the music, not matter what style. Lady Gaga comes to mind too.

9. Who else does that shit? Elton John comes to mind from back in the day, but that's when i stopped liking him so much too. You wont see Petty, Neil Young and Springsteen doing that crap. Can y'all think of anyone?

10. Yeah, i'm going to keep writing here like a bunch of you are still reading. So from time to time i'll still put those requests for feedback here.

11. Back to #4 for a moment: I kind of miss the newspaper and think i'll have Brian restart it. Hell, i have no idea what is going on anymore because i refuse to watch CNN or MSNBC and my favorite King 5 never has a story anymore that isn't some big shooting, it's enough to make this little homebody turn agoraphobic. And I don't need any more reasons to not leave the house. Next thing you know i'll be getting cats.

12. Of course that is a lie. Cats definitely get the middlefinger - especially those posted on Facebook.

13.  I have to cook for a vegan friend next Friday! HELP! I stupidly thought i had the best idea: gnocchi and i even was going to make it with ricotta instead of potato (because it's much better with the cheese) forgetting, of course, that vegan is far more militant than just being vegetarian. My friend Debbie is going to help me so she will share in the blame for cooking a meal that tastes like air.

OK so if you are reading i have two requests:

#1 Do you have any good vegan recipes that are fit for serving for a nice dinner? (Thug Kitchen isn't what i want for this.)

#2 What other musicians are in the Miley Cyrus/Lady Gaga genre of clowns who sing?

Notes to myself:
Sunset: 6:35 pm
Sunrise: 7:19 am
Book: Cuckoo's Calling (The Harry Potter author writing under a pseudonym)
Blood pressure meds: Day 1... again.

I had some good vegan breakfast ideas with quinoa but dinner? Fall squash soup and spaghetti squash with marinara sauce? Lots of wine???

Most of the female rappers have been outrageous in their actions. Rhianna is overtly sexual and I find it appalling. Miley Cyrus is a spoiled brat whose juvenile parents can't control her. Never did.

I listen to the weather on the news and that's about it. I do read it online and I don't know how these GOP people sleep at night.

We had our first rain in months yesterday. It's only in the low 60's today so I am thrilled. Our German Shorthair broke the front gate yesterday and she and the terrier escaped. Went about 7 blocks. Thank God we had name tags.

I am dealing with butting heads with the agency that controls my medical treatment for my shoulder. I see a new doctor, he sends them a report, and bang I get an order for a second opinion. They must not have liked what the new doctor has said. They are holding up the request for PT but approved 3 injections. Go figure.

My BP has been pretty good. Upper number has been consistently below 137 but the lower one has been in the high 90's a couple of time. I take Lisinopril and HCTZ. Lots of stressors in my life right now.

Peace.

amulbunny!!!! Two of us are non-vegans doing the cooking and we were just talking about spaghetti squash with marinara!

Rhianna's only song that i love is that Stay song.I tried to listen to her others but couldn't stand them. But that one song slays me. She's got an amazing voice. Which is why i hate it more when they do all that other shit for attention. Let the voice stand alone.

I don't even know if Miley has a good voice or not because i don't care to find out because of how she is so much into the "look at me....look at me, aren't i outrageous?"

Your shoulder has been going on a long time now hasn't it????

I took my BP this morning and it was normal again after taking one pill. However last night i was awake all night long. I could not get to sleep. Not even a wink. It was the longest night. I would read, then turn off the light. Then turn it on again. I probably did that 6 times. The last time i looked at the clock it was past 4 am. I think i was reacting to my BP or the meds or the fact that i knew i had to be up early this morning.

Weird though how when you have only two hours of sleep you can be super energized the next day....i got a lot done at work.... But i suspect tomorrow i will be out of it which is fine since i don't have to get up early.

JoJo! I haven't been here in a long while. Partly because I've been insanely busy with schooling the kids (who are 12 and 15 already), and taking Hebrew History classes and beginning Hebrew language with Rosetta Stone. It's hard but good for the brain to keep learning.

I swear, if it's an incumbent I won't vote for it without a complete voting history for all time in office...

I hope your running days aren't over. I don't run but I do walk a lot because I know you run.

I don't know many names of singers or actors or anyone else. If I like the sound of them, I buy the song.

And vegan dinner? A mixed greens salad with strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and slivered almonds and raspberry vinaigrette is good. And grilled chicken added for the meat eaters I easy. I love squash just about anyway it can be cooked.

I'll try and look in once in awhile. I miss reading your blog.

Hi Annie!

- I'm too wishy-washy to even give the middle finger to anything, I'll go with Little finger - or as my dad used to say, "when you don't care enough to send the very best"
Little finger to:

Gmail, mostly I love google but I hate my g-mail account at work. It thinks it's so smart and tries to anticipate what you want. If I've been on my work gmail at home, it wants me to sign onto this blog with my work account; like that's what I want. I have to shut down my computer and start all over.

The Government Shut down. It isn't even a real shut down so doesn't get the real finger. Actually I'm more mad at it because it's not real. How can it be a shut down when they didn't shut it down. My Federal employee husband is working, just not the folks who would process his pay. I'm glad Ensley isn't opening our national parks with state money. They are National Parks so should be shut down with the Federal shut down. There are so many exceptions not enough people feel the pain. Just sayin'

My front loading washing machine. Maybe it uses less water but it takes forever for a cycle. You can't presoak anything and if you use bleach you can't dilute it ahead of the clothes so you get bleach spots on things, plus I have to run an extra rinse cycle every time or things come out soapy.

Vegan cooking - not a middle finger here because I don't have to cook for one anymore. I do have a recipe or two though, I'm sure Emma has a ton. The spaghetti squash idea is a good one. You can also do a tex-mex sort of squash thing with enchilada sauce and black beans. If you buy vegan cheese, read the package carefully not all nondairy is vegan. Put real cheese on your own.

Nondairy. I love dairy

Oh yeah, and a bunch of middle and little fingers to my key boarding skills.

and of course the entire Microsoft Suite.

T-Sam, good to see you!!!! Wow, Hebrew???? What inspired you to choose Hebrew?

Louie, i hear you on the shutdown, though there are some folks who are affected, just not us. But the majority of us don't feel it hard enough. It's what i used to rant about with the Iraq war in the first few years.

Good to know about the front loading machines I would have leaned this way if i were in the market for one.

I have to give a middle finger to stainless steel appliances. You watch, they are going to be the avocado green of it's time in the next decade. PLUS i stayed last summer in a cabin that had them and there is no way to get those suckers clean. It would make me crazy. I'm such a counter/appliance wiper-upper.

I would also give the middlefinger to granite countertops. I swear folks just think they want these because everyone on HG says the same thing: open space living, granite and stainless steel. And an en suite...or however the fuck you spell that. I never heard of an en suite until i started watching the show.

If you have meat with your spaghetti squash, you can substitute hers with fried Tofu. And another musician clown is .... Chuck Norris! OK, so he's not a musician but I still hate him.

jojo cucina cucina said...

Baybee, hahaha....who even thinks about Chuck Norris anymore? You must have been watching him on one of those stupid informercials!

By the way, i think i want an en suite. That's what makes me mad. I didn't know how much i was supposed to hate my popcorn ceiling either until i started watching the HG Channel.

So in a way, as much as i love the HG Channel, i give it the middle finger.

....with the exception of The Property Brothers.

Love those guys!

Especially, of course, the one who wears the tool belt!

Rule #1: Chuck Norris is always right. Rule #2: Should Chuck Norris happen to be wrong he will roundhouse kick you back to rule #1.

When Alexander Bell invented the telephone he had 3 missed calls from Chuck Norris

Fear of spiders is aracnaphobia, fear of tight spaces is chlaustraphobia, fear of Chuck Norris is called Logic.

Chuck Norris doesn't call the wrong number. You answer the wrong phone.

Chuck Norris has a grizzly bear carpet in his room. The bear isn't dead it is just afraid to move.

Sorry Chuck Norris was mentioned and the Chuck Norris jokes just start happening.

I swear i posted on this and it's not here. That's what happens sometimes when i'm on the kindle. If i can't post from a kindle, no wonder no one wants to from an iPhone!...

AMY, you totally crack me up! I'll make sure Brian see this!

I am not intentionally neglecting this blog ...my nephew and his wife had their baby but are still in the hospital a week later. (Adrienne is diabetic and her blood pressure is really high. Hopefully tomorrow. Little Brady is super cute already for a white newborn baby!
