In My Humble Opinion

My friend Julie (jj here) gave me this little journal. I put the whole subtitle on the previous blog post in my last comment so i won't type out the whole thing except this part:

"A journal to vent about why people are like that and why all the stupid things they do are so obvious to me...."

So i'm going to keep this close to me and write down stuff as i feel irritated. I have been a longtime journal writer, starting around the age of 9 with those little diaries that had that stupid little key that really never locked your thoughts away. But that key was so cute!

In this little book there are tips on journaling and i like this one by Anais Nin: "What feels vivid, warm, or near to you at the moment?"

So let's get on with my humble opinion. . . not sure it's all that humble, since it's me writing, but hell, it's part of the book title...so here we go!

1. In my humble opinion  - i think that the presidential race is not that close at all!  Those cable news channels are full of shit, but i'm glad they are saying it's neck and neck, because then more people vote. And when more people vote, Democrats win! I think Obama will handily win. (I want to predict a landslide, but i can't because of the Republican money, and for that reason i am afraid we are going to get a bad Governor. )

2. In my humble opinion - You can never have too many pairs of jeans. I just bought another pair of Christopher Blues. Here's my bitch: I had to buy them in 34 inseam. I have something like a 28 inseam. They are supposed to be boot cut but by the time i cut them off and hem them they will be skinny jeans.

3. In my humble opinion - nearly every time i leave H&L produce i have to turn on to a busy street that feeds off the freeway. There is a left turn lane and a separate lane for people, like me, turning right. Seriously, about every other time i am there i get behind a giant SUV turning left who blocks BOTH lanes and so now i totally understand road rage.

4. In my humble opinion - Verbosity is not a bad thing. I was thinking about how i posted earlier that i was going to make these shorter and so far i have done exactly the opposite, starting with live blogging the debates!... For some reason it's a challenge for me to keep things short. I have no idea how to rein myself in. I do the same with voice mails. It's my wiring. I would be a Terrible Twitterer.

5. And in my humble opinion - Contradicting oneself is not so bad either! It means you are always evolving.

6. One last humble opinion...probably my most important one ...to me, anyway... People who don't vote should leave the country, or at the very least, leave whatever room i am in. I can almost say, without apology, that i hate people who don't vote. Or to be more accurate, i can't imagine that i could ever be friends with you if you didn't.

What are YOUR humble opinions?

Jo your title reminded me of this song (which I am now singing in my head) and then the song reminded me of you.

Oh Lord it's hard to be humble
when you're perfect in every way. . .
. . . I never get lonesome
cause I treasure my own company. . .

Oh Lord it's hard to be humble
but I'm doing the best that I can

Did you remember that was Mac Davis? Me either

So, In My Humble Opinion:

In My Humble Opinion: Humble opinions aren’t all that great. The opinions I am humble about don’t seem to get me anywhere. I think I’m way too self-effacing and that hurts my credibility. Usually I wouldn’t believe me either. But then the opinions I am vociferous about don’t get me anywhere either. I think maybe I’m just not getting anywhere.

In My Humble Opinion: Movie previews are too violent, too loud, too strident, have too many flashing lights and are generally just too, too much. I’m not wild about going to movies in the first place (have trouble sitting still and just watching for that long) but the previews make it worse. I close my eyes and cover my ears (movie music has gotten especially creepy) and I’m still exhausted by the time the movie starts.

I don’t have any more humble opinions. What’s with that?

I totally remember that song!

And i agree with you about being humble. I think it's overrated. And i say this all the time. I hate false humility even more than i hate arrogance!

Sometimes i even equate humbleness with being a doormat. But i don't really think that's being fair. If i pretended to be really humble, God would know i was lying. So pretending i'm nicer than i am isn't going to fly with Him.

So i don't try.

What a horrible icky rainy day. The kind to stay inside and read books. I went to get my hair done so it's darker and auburn again and i like it a lot. (It lightened up so much this summer.) I wish i had gone darker years ago.

Speaking of movies: I watched a really sweet movie this morning on the Encore channel. It's called "Spring Forward" and it has Liev Schreiber and Ned Beatty in it who play park service guys and the whole movie is about these two guys relating to one another as the seasons go by. But it's poignant. And Liev is pretty damn cute in this. I had never heard of it before.

I think i am returning the salsa colored anorak i bought for doorbelling (only it never showed up in time anyway). It's pockets are too poofy and the buttons are gold. I hate gold. I need to find something waterproof though. I have nothing waterproof at all for these deluge months coming ahead.

I'm headed out tonight for my husband's blues band. They are opening for the Tim Hall band again so they only play about an hour. I didn't ask any family or friends to go since it's not in the best venue so i'll be with the few band wives who may or may not be there. I would rather stay home with a fire on a rainy blustery night like tonight, but Brian likes it so much when i come. Oh yeah, and plus i just got my hair done and it looks fabulous. Seems a shame to not go out, i guess.

Where everybody be?

I am going to write a few things in my journal about why people are like that and why all the stupid things they do are so obvious to me.......

They are:

I drive the 20 mph speed limit by the damn schools even as it pisses me off. Because first of all, there are never any kids that i ever see when i am driving by AND i can fully stop anyway if one of them is so stupid as to not notice my red Honda as it approaches.

BUT i really hate when the driver in front of me FORGETS that at some point past the school you can speed up! But nooooo, i have to drive behind some idiot on Phillips Road all the way to the stoplight at 20 miles per hour.

Truth is, we should have 20 mph zones in front of those assisted living places instead of schools. I get tired of everything always being about the kids! Baby on Board and all that shit, like the adults in the car, the ones who EARN MONEY so the kids can eat and be clothed, don't matter. I always always hated those Baby on Board stickers.

We need stickers that say: SINGLE MOM ON BOARD.... that makes a hell of a lot more sense to me.

Here is my other gripe for my journal....

I almost deactivated my Facebook account again: Here's why:
This was posted on my Facebook newsfeed yesterday and it just so happens to be from a family member in Louisiana, who was not one of the 75 friends i dropped when i signed back in. She posted this about the election:

Something to think about...This goes for all elections on all levels....
who will I vote for?
• I will vote for the most pro-life candidate, because God hates the shedding of innocent blood (Prov.6:17).
• I will vote for the most pro-Israel candidate, because God blesses those who bless Israel & curses those who don't (Gen.12:3)
• I will vote for the most pro-debt reduction candidate, because the borrower is servant to the lender (Prov.22:7).
...• I will vote for the most pro-work candidate because God says if a man does not work, let him not eat. (2Thess.3:10)
...• I will vote for the candidate who most closely believes government's purpose is to reward the good & punish the evil (Romans 13).
• I will vote based as close as I can on God's Word (2Tim.3:16).
May God have mercy on The United States of America.
(I did not write this, so feel free to copy and paste it, I wish I had.)

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggg. I am so sick of anyone who wants to subsitute the Bible for the Constitution that i can puke.

Louie, get on Facebook so then we can post here about the stuff we hated most about our newsfeed that week! That would be fun.

OK - sang that song in High School in - wait for it - Folk Choir. In my humble opinion:

1. As soon as you say that phrase you are not humble anymore.
2. I am watching "Religilous". Bill Maher talks a lot about how "God and Country" is really totally the opposite of anything Jesus actually said. Gotta agree.
3. Round-a-bouts worked really well until people stopped yielding. People are too distracted while driving and any safety measure will - at some point - stop being safe.
4. My students told me this week that they are "taking too many tests". Yep. Preaching to the choir. Especially in my case (the music teacher).
5. Sorry - it's Friday and I'm tired.
