Ten Fives...Random Style...plus this issue of Rolling Stone magazine!

While on my way to Lowes to buy basil for planting on my patio i thought of a new blog post: Ten Fives.

It goes like this: I  list 10 different subjects that would include 5 answers. But as i type i honestly don't know what subjects i am getting ready to pick just now. I have not thought this through beyond the subject line idea.

I always like to tell y'all that like it's some magic trick...."Watch the Amazing jojo As She Randomly Chooses 10 Superfragilistic Topics For Her Blog That will Change Your Life!"

hahahaha.....

Ok.....First off. Let's talk about this:

I have a subscription to this magazine and i cannot wait until it arrives in my mailbox. It probably will tomorrow. So when it does i will be back to add more. I am not exactly sure how i should feel about this, given how i believe in free speech and all that.

But what comes to mind for me is something my husband said when he saw this guy's photo on the news the first time. Paraphrasing: "When girls see this guy's photo they are going to think he is so cute that he couldn't possibly be guilty."

And yes, he does look like that doesn't he?

I want him to look more like Tim McVeigh. Isn't that weird too?

Ok, that aside, let's talk get on with the Random jojo shit that changes all of y'all lives:

Ten Fives:

1. List five traits necessary for being your your friend:

2. What are 5 red flags for any person that makes you get the hell out of their way.

3. Can you give an example of the 5 best compliments you ever received?

4. What are 5 things that you have accomplished that you are proud of?

5. I know this might be redundant, but i don't care. What are 5 songs that you never get tired of?

6. Going off 'The Bomber' above in Rolling Stone, who are the first 5 notorious criminals who come to mind?

7. Who are the first 5 heroes?

8. What 5 movies can you see over and over?  (again this might be redundant but my list often changes so i want to do it again.)

9. What are YOUR 5 vices?

10. What are 5 vices in others that you cannot tolerate?

Ok, here are the rules. YES , i have imposed rules..... do not read the other comments until you add your own. I want to see how many people come up with similar answers. All two of you.... hahahahaha.....

Speaking of...i already know from reading the stats that more than two people are reading, so this is an easy inclusive one. If you are reading you must like opinionations (I can make up words on my own blog) cause if you didn't you wouldn't be reading. So, come here and add yours, okay?  (I will add mine later.)

Re: the Rolling Stone cover...i am quite sure that they knew exactly what they were doing and will sell even more copies because of the controversy. How come the opponents don't get this by now?

Silence is so often the best offense. But i really really hate it as a defense!

1. List five traits necessary for being your your friend:

honesty, good will, fun, sense of humor, patience

2. What are 5 red flags for any person that makes you get the hell out of their way.

anger, ill will, lack of humor, self absorption, drama

3. Can you give an example of the 5 best compliments you ever received?

you are beautiful in a way that you don't realize you are beautiful (or something like that my grandmother's friend said)

you are a good mother (especially when my kids say it)

when you walk everything moves (lol, from my gay friend Ron about 100 years ago)

you have a good heart

you have beautiful eyes

4. What are 5 things that you have accomplished that you are proud of?

taking back my life, even as that will always be a work in progress

raising my kids, even as that is still (hopefully will not always be) a work in progress

my career

improving my riding skills

improving my hiking skills and physical capabilities

5. I know this might be redundant, but i don't care. What are 5 songs that you never get tired of?

Jackson Browne - For a Dancer

Bright Eyes - First Day of My Life

Jackie Greene - Hollywood

Bruce Springsteen - Jungleland

Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah

6. Going off 'The Bomber' above in Rolling Stone, who are the first 5 notorious criminals who come to mind?

Charles Manson

Jeffrey Dahmer

Tim McVeigh

OJ Simpson

The Unabomber

7. Who are the first 5 heroes?

all of the people who serve as first responders whose names we will never know or remember

8. What 5 movies can you see over and over? (again this might be redundant but my list often changes so i want to do it again.)

i am lucky to see a movie once, i just never get out to them. so i guess i have to pick the disney movies we watched over and over with the kids:

aladdin
beauty and the beast
bambi
pocahontas
homeward bound (that might not have been a disney movie)

9. What are YOUR 5 vices?

not sure if all of these are really vices...

emotional eating
lack of assertiveness/fear of confrontation
facebook
difficulty saying no
procrastination

10. What are 5 vices in others that you cannot tolerate?

gossip
mean-spiritedness
dishonesty
selfishness
unwillingness to work on overcoming vices like smoking, addiction, etc. i can understand someone having a weakness in the first place, but to just accept it and make excuses and not try to overcome it is what I can't tolerate, if that makes sense.

Ethical (which pretty much covers honesty);
Independent;
Problem solver;
Good listener (and a good talker);
Generosity to others

2. What are 5 red flags for any person that makes you get the hell out of their way.
Pouters;
Passive aggressive behavior;
Someone who talks only about their problems and does nothing;

People who bait me about politics or religion or just in general.

3. Can you give an example of the 5 best compliments you ever received?
i might have to come back to this.

Half marathon and sticking with my running program;
Giving a keynote speech at my colleague's retirement;
Getting the job out of many applicants - the one i am retiring from;
Having my nieces Ashley and Kylee and my nephew Brian staying in touch with me (i must have done something right there with being their aunt);
My letters to the editor.

5. I know this might be redundant, but i don't care. What are 5 songs that you never get tired of?

6. Going off 'The Bomber' above in Rolling Stone, who are the first 5 notorious criminals who come to mind?
Charles Manson
The Unabomber
The Columbine shooters
The Colorado movie theater shooter
Bankers in the last few years

7. Who are the first 5 heroes?
Obama

9. What are YOUR 5 vices?
Bite my nails
Wine
Book buying when i already have so many i haven't read
Carbs

10. What are 5 vices in others that you cannot tolerate?
Drugs (obviously)
People who always get drunk and sloppy when they drink
I don't like smoking and would not likely date a smoker now if dating, but i can tolerate it if people are courteous about it.
Over Gambling

Wow, these are harder than i thought. Don't feel like you have to answer all 5. Ten Fives sounded better than Ten Threes.

I love you number 7 Barbara. Not sure why that one was so hard for me. I should probably had that teachers - those who are really good are heroes. I can't believe anyone still wants that job.

I forgot songs:
Diamonds and Rust by Joan Baez
Sweet Carolina by Ryan Adams
Celtic New Year by Van Morrison
Violin by Amos Lee
Amelia by Joni Mitchell

Re: Rolling Stone cover

I love it. They're making a point about how a normal-looking American teenager can go so horribly off-kilter. It's beautifully done. I think we have an image of what terrorists look like, and this is most certainly not it.

Well, except he does look like a young Cat Stevens.

I may steal this list, Jo. I love your lists!

1. Five traits necessary for being my friend:
• Ability to laugh at/discuss bodily functions

2. Five red flags
• Crazy eyes (If I can see the whites above the iris, I’m out.)
• Pee-stained pants
• A large dog
• Solo conversations or arguments
• Jesus stickers (on their car or person)

I skipped 3 and 4. We can discuss my low self-esteem later. Kidding.

• Ted Bundy

7. The first 5 heroes
• Sully the airline pilot

• Loud gum-chewing
• Slurping hot coffee
• Flossing in a common area (my dad flosses in the living room and it makes me crazy)

Amanda, you just made a very excellent point about the face of a terrorist and you're right! He does look like a young Cat Stevens. Of course wasn't Cat Stevens detained and put on a no-fly list at one time?

I wish i had thought of Jerry Sandusky and Sully!

and i have to crack up at the pee stained pants!!!!

Let’s see if I can do this. So far I’m good because I am following Jo’s rules. Why? 1. Because I am a rule follower. 2. I have to write my comments in Word (the work of the devil) because I make too many mistakes typing right in the blog.

1. Five Friend Traits:
Acceptance
Honesty
Open Mindedness
Stable
Undying Adoration

2.cFive Red Flags:
Confederate Flag/belt/bumper sticker
Laughing Too Loud (especially a shrieker)
Too easy to agree
Sexist Jokes
Really big 4-wheel drive truck

3. Three Compliments that have really mattered to me:

I am altruistic (my favorite)
I am the district’s moral compass
Most any thing about my kids

4. Five Accomplishments:
My kind children
A 35-year career in education
I get along with/enjoy all my siblings (their accomplishments, not mine)
I have fun at work every day
My husband loves me

5. Five Songs:
Mostly I like all songs with words I can sing along with, from hymns to nursery rhymes, to old Simon and Garfunkel, to Abba, to show-tunes

6. First Five Criminals who come to mind:
Ted Bundy
Ted Kaczynski
Bonnie and Clyde
D B Cooper
Lizzy Borden

worry too much

8. Five Vices that I can’t stand
Sanctimoniousness
Dishonesty
Knuckle cracking
whining
smoking

I see after I numbered and posted that I only have eight. Maybe I should add lack of attention to detail to my shortcomings list - was there a shortcomings one?

You all had some great ones, I forgot that my friend requirements include a sense of humor

jojo cucina cucina said...

louie, 'acceptance' is a good one for a friend. Too often i say that i need to be around people who 'get' me. That saying "eggs should not dance with stones" is what i'm talking about. If you are a hypersensitive person you aren't likely going to want to hang out with me.

Adoration! hahahaha....

Abba. For Gawd's sake! OK, you are not allowed to bring YOUR iPod to our 'ladies' vacation!

Isn't if funny how it's easy to name criminals but it's much harder to name a hero??? I just put Obama up there cause i couldn't think of one.

(I can't believe i forgot Ted Bundy!!!! Especially since i have a Ted Bundy story to tell.)

OK, Re: gossip is bad but we all do it? I can't be the ONLY one!

jojo cucina cucina said...

I can't believe i also forgot to pick George Zimmerman!!!!!

jojo cucina cucina said...

Oh yeah, one more thing about the Marathon Bomber's photo. This might sound really bad, but i used to say that Osama bin ladin was a good looking guy. Take that long beard away and he too had the Cat Stevenesque looks that i like in men. Also Ted Bundy, since we mention him, was also very good looking. It's not Rolling Stone magazine's fault if this young terrorist is good looking. I am sure the story inside will not be in any way unpatriotic.

I have been Netfllixing the first season of Newsroom and LOVE it almost as much as i used to love The West Wing (both written by Aaron Sorkin). I understand where folks might think it's sanctimonious but i would rather my news be delivered elitely and santimoniusly than with sensationalism.

It got me thinking that Aaron should write a special show for Newsrooms future out of the regular timeline to report on the Zimmerman story.

Speaking of Osama: Right now i'm caught up to the episode where they caught Osama bin ladin. I remember where i was. I was blogging here and when i logged in Comcast was reporting it and so i added it to the end of my blog, not sure if it was true but was going to check it out.

What answer is Mama Mia to??????? hahaha....

I can't wait for my mail. I hope my Rolling Stone comes today!

jojo cucina cucina said...

It did not come today. :(

I forgot a movie that I always watch. Because I Said So with Diane Keaton and Mandy Moore. It's an awful movie, but it sucks me in. I watch it every time it's on! Shameful.

jojo cucina cucina said...

Louie hates Diane Keaton and sort of got ME hating on her too now cause i see what she means. She teminds me of Caluista Flockhart in the Ally McBeal show. God i hated that character. HOWEVER i adored her in Annie Hall.

jojo cucina cucina said...

Diane Keaton i mean ...not Calista ..figures that Calista is with Harrison Ford who is one of my least favorite high profile actors!

jojo cucina cucina said...

I got back from my trip and my Rolling Stone is still not in my mailbox! I bet the mail carrier is reading it first! Maybe it will come tomorrow.
