Friday Night Ramblings While Drinking a $25 Viognier

Menu of the Day:

My REAL menu:
is a crab cake and stir fried peapods with ham that i bought from Tacoma Boys this afternoon.

Music: This is Pete Yorn week. Right now i'm listening to his version of Elvis's "Suspicious Minds". (I love his song "Rock Crowd")

My last iTunes purchase: Sister Hazel's new cd.

The Best thing that happened this week: shoot, i'm trying to think. It was a very busy week. I've worked late every night except last night. I think the best thing is this viognier i'm drinking.

What i'm looking forward to: Kylee/ms hippie is moving back to Tacoma in about two weeks, 5 minutes away from our place. Saturday walks around Chambers Creek for exercise with Kylee and getting back to our tradition of decorating my Christmas tree and then eating Chinese food while watching a cheesy movie!

OK, enough menu. On with the ramblings.

1. Pete Yorn, if you don't already know is super hot. Having said that i have to admit... he doesn't really do justice to "Suspicious Minds". But i still like it.( I don't really like Elvis Presley AT ALL, but if i had to pick a favorite song, it would be this one. )

2. I am starting to get really irritated with the political system and the culture of the Democrats disorganization and the tenacity and arrogance of the Republican party.

3. Having said that, i still think Patty Murray will still beat Dino Rossi.

4. Not so sure about the candidates i am working for locally. I would bet money that Tami G. will win and that Troy K. will lose to that right wing lawyer. I also think 1098 the state income tax initiative will lose. (I voted yes.) And i hope that folks will be smart enough to turn down the initiatives about privatizing liquor, so i might bet money on that being a NO. ( i just want to be on the record, i know this is boring for those of you outside our state.)

5. Off politics. Let's talk about my possible agoraphobia, which is bound to happen very soon. First we had news that a guy on a bicycle was attacking women walking/running alone in the VERY area that i run. Then it was in the papers that a cougar, yes a wild animal, was running loose somewhere in the area that we live. And tonight i get a newsletter from my condo association that says there have been reports of a peeping Tom in our condo area. I am WTF? I rarely close my drapes when i am home. I'm thinking we need to move. Cause you see, we live in the city where our four police officers were killed in a coffee shop almost a year ago. We live in the area that used to be a favorite of that cable TV show "Cops" .

6. Actually i think i just need to quit watching the news.

7. But just in case, if you don't see me updating my blog for a very long time you might assume i was eaten by a cougar or had acid thrown on me by a wacko dude on a bike. So check with Ms Hippie/Kylee and she'll give you the scoop on my disappearance.

8. I hope the peeping Tom,( if he was looking in our window), got a whole lot of jollies watching ME on the sofa in my man flannel pajamas checking Facebook on my netbook computer!

9. I should mention here that the $25 viognier is well worth the money. But i am too lazy to walk the 32 steps to my kitchen to tell you what it is.

10. This is the year i feel myself getting older. I think i forgot i would get old. I am pissed. I am not ready.
What are your random thoughts?

equeyaya said...

you are not getting older dammit. stop.

last night i went to the tapas place with a friend and brought a bottle of santa margherita chardonnay. i forget what I paid for it, but she was familiar with it and thought it was more than $20. she only drank one glass, so of course i had to finish the rest of it.

i bought a mixed case of wine online from pop's, so i am set for a while.

i am in a crying mood. i cried over something on the news yesterday, i cried watching the jon stewart rally today. i need to snap out of it.

i'm sad that grace won't eat anything i cook. i really want to cook, but don't have room to freeze everything. i need to figure out how to scale down my recipes to make very small portions.

grace makes me sad in general. a lot of times i feel like she is trying to hurt me and the more i try to make her happy the more she tries to hurt me. so i'm thinking i will focus more on trying to make me happy.

i watched an old movie with Jack Gylenhall, Susan Sarandon and Dustin Hoffman today called Moonlight Mile. I want to buy the soundtrack, but when I read the reviews, they said some of the best songs from the movie are missing from the soundtrack, so i would need to supplement from itunes, and i don't want to buy anything else from itunes until i replace my computer or at least get an external hard drive.

This is the soundtrack:

The Moonlight Mile soundtrack was released September 24, 2002 by Sony Records.[2]

"I Want to Take You Higher" - Sly & The Family Stone
"Moonlight Mile" - The Rolling Stones
"Love Will Come Through" - Travis
"Twentieth Century Boy" - T. Rex
"Sweet Head" - David Bowie
"Everybody Is a Star" - Sly & The Family Stone
"I Hear You Knocking" - Dave Edmunds
"Rock and Roll" (Part 2) - Gary Glitter
"Razor Face" - Elton John
"I'll Be Your Lover, Too" - Van Morrison
"Comin' Back to Me" - Jefferson Airplane
"Buckets of Rain" - Bob Dylan
"Song to the Siren" - Robert Plant
"The Telling" - Jorma Kaukonen

Herb Alpert and the Tiajuana Brass - So What's New
Jethro Tull - Hymn 43
Van Morrison - Sweet Thing
Ohio Players - Fire

I loved the movie "Moonlight Mile" and the music was fabulous. I bought the Van Morrison song after watching that movie. I love the part where Susan Sarandon makes a face as someone is hugging her and spewing banalities about the death of her daughter. It reminded me to not try too hard to say the right words to someone has lost a loved one. There aren't right words, but your presence can be enough. Just don't be stupid.

Plus Jake Gylenhall is so cute!

I am sorry that you are feeling down, eque. Those feelings hopefully are just a mood and will be over soon.

I would hate to cook for teenagers. So i think you just need to have more dinner parties with your friends. If i lived near you i would go over and pick up louielouie (who won't drive at night) and come over for dinner and wine. :)

I watched the Jon Stewart rally today and thought it was cheesy in some parts and very moving in others. I loved the Kid Rock song with Sheryl Crow. And Mavis and Jeff Tweedy too. And Jon's speech at the end made me tear up too. And what a nice surprise to see Yusef/Cat Stevens show up playing "Peace Train" when i was just talking about him.

Brian's band is playing in Mercer Island tonight so i have a free night. I plan to:
1. buy some iTunes,
2. watch some Lost.
3. Eat some pasta.
4. Maybe read a book (I have two new ones).
5. Probably pour myself a glass of this new shiraz called The Boxer.
6. Then when i do that i'll put on the song The Boxer by Simon and Garfunkle while i drink it.

Not much new here.

I’m not sure what I do with my time but I’m always busy even though I never get around to reading, sewing, cleaning or even cooking any more.

I am, however, making Kung Pao Chicken tonight, although I’m using pork, because that’s what I thawed out – I haven’t made this in ages. My mom will come over to eat and watch some of the World Series with us.

I hear you Eque, I feel as if I’m on the verge of tears all the time, but I have no real reason. I think maybe I’m just tired. I think I need Jo to help me with a new resume’ but maybe I need a career coach first. Don’t even know what I would look for or apply for. I do need to work 5 more years and sock away a ton of $$ before I can retire.

I do know I’m old; the fact that I have two memorial services (at the same time) I should attend on Saturday just proves it. More proof – I’m having my bunion removed on Veterans’ Day. Is that an old lady surgery or what? My dr. says I could go back to work after one day but I’m taking off the following Monday and Tuesday too. Maybe I need to Jo to take Tuesday off to play Scrabble with me

My daughter and I are in a good place these days. Em’s 22, how old is Grace? I made her some really swell gold-lame’ harem pants for a party next week. At this point in her life she is appreciative. Her brother? Not so much. I don’t even know for sure that the last box I mailed him got there. I even mailed him a box of sour patch boogers. How could he not say thank you?

Is this rambling enough?

i just bought the new electronic Scrabble, louie. It's got tiles (run on batteries) that change letters and you have to try to use all 5 of them to make a word. So far my personal best is 14 in the time alloted. Which is better than my husband but below what it should be. It's fun to play alone and kind of addictive.

I wish i could take Tuesday off and come over and play Scrabble. But if you are on pain killers you won't be able to drink and i think i am going to break my weekday rule and have a drink while i watch the election returns because i think i am going to need one. I feel good one day and then feel like it's doom the next.

I don't feel like crying though like y'all. I feel like shooting at stuff.

I think i'm one getting close to being one of those women on SNAPPED. LOL

I could see myself very easily turning into a female Hunter Thompson.

She'll be 17 next Friday, Louie. I know it'll get better, because her older sister is 19 and, even though she still gets moody, she's much more appreciative.

Grace and I had a good day yesterday, and mostly today (we weren't around each other much, maybe that's why). So I'll take that.

I had a really fun weekend, so I'm taking that, too. No tears for the moment.

Good luck with the bunion thing. Does it make you feel better to know I have a goiter? :)

jojo cucina cucina said...

bunions and goiters. OMG. this is so not making my blog cool! LOLOLOL....

i am watching the election returns but i made Brian turn off Rand Paul so now we're watching one of his lame-0 Modern Marvel DVRd shows. This one happens to be about Tabasco and peppers. It's actually as boring as Rand Paul's speech but at least it doesn't make me want to shoot at my tv.

I told Brian he better never ever buy me a gun even if i ask for one for Christmas (because it did occur to me to do so cause i think i would love to carry a gun, legally of course.)

louielouie, does Emma have a Facebook? She should totally friend me.

I can't wait until Ms Hippie graduates because then she'll come back to the blogosphere.

Besides thanking the rest of the regulars here for reading, I want to also Shout Out Amy and Amanda . Brian was telling me tonight that you both love reading here and i have to say it's one of the things that keeps me moving this blog as often as i do because he told me that once before. So thank you. Cause i like writing it and i like writing it more if i know someone wants to read and/or participate. ESPECIALLY participate.

I am going to be sick to my stomach if Russ Feingold loses. how can that be??? Really what has happened in our country when Russ Feingold can lose and Michelle Bachman and Rand Paul can win? I need to form my own country. Who's with me?

jojo cucina cucina said...

New House leadership called? I won't miss Pelosi. BUT oh no.

OK...really. Here is what i want to know? do folks who don't have jobs really really believe they would have jobs if McCain were elected or if their congressperson was different?

And you young college age kids? if you didn't vote and my husband does buy me a gun for Christmas as i think i might ask him to do, then don't tell me you didn't vote because i might likely shoot you in the foot just to prove that your health care came from the Democrats....

I almost cannot watch what happens in our state.

Besides Patty Murray and Dino Rossi in the U.S. Senate, and in typical Washington State culture, the two candidates i worked for are too close to call right now. At least i can feel like our efforts made a difference there.

I don't like this day.

equeyaya said...

Did they call them yet? I'm sure you did make a big difference.

jojo cucina cucina said...

I updated our work Facebook page before i left because they had new tallies. It's looking even better now. Especially for Patty Murray.

The latest results as of 4:56 pm show that Patty Murray is now 24,803 votes ahead of Dino Rossi. (This is a change from the 14,005 lead this morning!)

Tami G. has a 326 vote lead over her opponent. (A change since this morning when she 172 votes up.)

Troy K. is 1,045 votes ahead of his opponent. (A change from his 897 lead this morning.)

I like this day a lot more.

jojo cucina cucina said...

But no, they haven't called it yet.

I already told Brian that if Dino Rossi won, I'd have to leave the state. So, I'm relieved the gap is getting wider. I met Dino once and he's worse in person than he is on tv. Yuck!

Thanks for the shoutout, Jo. Amy and I love your blog. I also love the pics of you and Brian waving signs (on your facebook page). You two are the cutest!

jojo cucina cucina said...

Yayay! Patty won. And i think for sure our Tami and Troy will win too.

I saw you on my Facebook post, Amanda. Thanks to you and Amy for being here. you should encourage her to post too! Amy, here me? We're a friendly bunch.
