Blog Slog.

I am just going to wing this cause i won't have time to change it for a few days.

1. I have 16 Mondays left until i retire and about 6 of those will be vacation ones. I have been in three meetings within one week that have been full of hostile, disgruntled and ill mannered people. The reasons vary and i won't bore you but i realize retirement can't come fast enough anymore.

I told my boss that for me, waiting for retirement feels something like this:   You're traveling in a car on a very long road trip and you start to feel the urge to pee.... only you aren't quite ready to stop yet, so you keep driving and have no trouble holding it for awhile. And finally a rest stop sign says the next one is 25 miles away. So you say to your spouse, 'okay, let's stop when we get there because i need to pee'. And you are still able to maintain your bladder for another half hour or so.. But then something happens when you pull into the rest stop.... All of a sudden it becomes super urgent... like with a capital U.

And before you can almost get into the bathroom stall and pull down your zipper you are ready to burst. And heaven help you if there is a line - the closer you got to the toilet the harder it became. It's the knowing you are almost there but not quite that makes it unbearable.

That's how i feel about retirement. When can you retire and what do you think you'll want to do?

2. I haven't finished watching the DVD yet because we put it on too late, but i already LOVE Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained.  Has anyone else seen this? The scene where they are wearing KKK kind of masks but they can't see through the holes is hilarious. I am glad Tarantino won the Academy Award for Best Screenplay.

His Pulp Fiction is still one of my Top Ten favorite movies. And it's almost one of those deal breaker movies. In that i wouldn't want to ever date a guy (if i were still dating) if he said the movie Pulp Fiction was too offensive and violent. I was never attractive to overly sensitive guys. What off the wall movie do you love?

3. After training since January i run my half marathon on Sunday. I have a goal. It's to beat my time last year. My spreadsheet shows that i have trained more than last year. So unless i feel terrible or something hurts, i think i can do it. I'm going to try. My other goal is to keep running at least until i am 60 years old (4 years from now) but this might be my last race. I don't love running at all. I just can't not do it. What do YOU do that you don't like?

4. I need measurable goals, especially ones that get me outside. I am the least adventurous person i know but i do what i can to get myself out of the house. I swear sometimes i could almost be agoraphobic.  What goals do YOU make for yourself?

5. Dammit, My iTunes updated itself and it's very confusing and incredibly irritating. I did not update it cause i hate stupid changes that don't make sense. And my husband tells me he didn't update it. Now i'm trying to figure out how to get my recently purchased songs on to my iPod which is plugged in. I have to ask: Has anyone ever had a technological update that improved your life?

OK, that's all i got for now. I have to go figure out this iTunes thing. I know it won't be THAT difficult it's just that it is a surprise and i HATE SURPRISES!!! I really do.

I loved Django Unchained! I was telling Amy about it a few weeks ago. It was so much better than I thought. While I loved Pulp Fiction (it really stands the test of time, too), I haven't been a fan of a lot of the other Tarantino movies. Django was awesome, though. I could watch it several more times. The writing was good. The acting was good. The story was incredibly unique and held my interest when almost nothing does these days.

I also really liked Killing Them Softly with Brad Pitt. That was so different. I'm a little in love with Brad Pitt right now. He's getting cooler as he gets older. His face looks appropriately aged, and I like it.

It feels like I'm never going to be able to retire. If I could, I'd like to volunteer at the animal shelter. I want to walk dogs and write bios for the animals up for adoption. I want to do their social media and get the animals good homes. It would be the best job ever.

What are you going to do, Jo?

I don't think I'll ever be able to really retire. My company doesn't have a pension, so it's up to me to save as much as I can, and I have a long way to go. If I ever can retire, I want to travel, hike and ride horses.

I don't like working out, but I like the way I feel after I work out. I've been trying out running on the treadmill on incline, and I'm up to 11 minutes that I can run without stopping. And it's getting a little easier. I'm hoping this will help me with hiking up elevation without getting as winded.

I'm afraid to make goals. Right now my goals are to get through each day and keep a positive outlook.

You're right about technology, it seems to make more work instead of less, and the expectation is that it allows you to do more, so the work keeps piling on. I would have to say, though, that I like digital photography, if that counts under technology.

I hope you're having a wonderful birthday, Jo!

Hey y'all. I've been out of town on a work retreat and then running my run yesterday.

Finished watching Django and LOVED IT! Almost, but not quite, as much as Pulp Fiction. I'll look for Killing Them Softly, Amanda. I wondered about that movie. I really like Brad Pitt.

Glad to see you are blogging again!

Hey eque! I too don't like working out but i like the feeling of having a goal and accomplishing that goal. I'm not one to make many goals and sometimes over the years i have tended to keep my bar low. I do think hiking elevation for hours and hours would be far harder than running.

I'm going to change this blog soon. I already posted about my running on Facebook so it will be redundant but i might need to put something up for history and Facebook loses it. But i'll still make it inclusive. Not that a lot of folks are posting, but i'll try to think of something more inviting!

I think I can retire in a year or two. Then I want another job. Am trying to figure out what would be available to me that I would like and I would be good at. I have good personal skills and good basic math skills (I can make change like nobody’s business and always face my money in my cash register drawer – and my wallet for that matter), reasonable writing skills (my grammar is ace, even though I realize I ended an earlier sentence with a preposition) but below average tech skills. Got any ideas?

What off the wall movie do you love?
I am not a movie lover. Did enjoy Jesus H Christ recently. I recommend it.

What goals do YOU make for yourself?
Do lists count? If so I make work goals everyday. I don’t usually meet them.

What do YOU do that you don't like?
I was going to say go to meetings, but I kind of like meetings. Actually, I kind of like everything I do a little. I like to floss.

Has anyone ever had a technological update that improved your life?
Yes, but it wasn’t Google Docs. What good is a word processing program that doesn’t work right with tables? I love tables. My iphone may have improved my life, but my life was pretty dang good before then too.

just realized:

1. I am posting to avoid exercising

2. I am still wearing my work clothes, including my name tag.

3. The hem is out of my left pant leg. Was the last time I wore these pants too. Wonder who will fix them. When.

4. Jo will change her blog now that I've posted.

5. Can't bear to end a list with an even number. Even ten.

I am glad i'm not 25 . This country is on such a downward path. I hate to see it in 10 years. Obama and the democrats and republicans are so out of touch in what to do for this country it is doomed. Seems nobody cares about the country they are all in it for themselves.
