More Stuff i Don't Get.

Sometimes when i am running i think about what to post on my blog. And earlier this week I saw something that made me want to do another one of these.  But now that i am sitting here getting ready to write this blog post i cannot for the life of me remember what i saw that made me think of this.

Maybe it will come to me.

1. I don't get people not having basic manners anymore. When did folks stop identifying themselves on the phone when they call for someone? I especially DETEST it when someone says with familiarity, "Hi Jo, can you put me through to Sam?" without telling me who THEY are.

2. No please either.

3. I don't get soccer moms. I can't believe moms really love going to outdoor soccer games early Saturday mornings in the pouring rain for the love of their kid. I guess it's because i hate soccer. I hate standing around in the rain. I don't have kids but if i did i would only let them go to the library on Saturday mornings because the library doesn't open up that early anyway.  I don't think i would love my kids enough to let them play soccer. (Good thing i didn't have them.)

4. I don't get why people have to exaggerate how hard they work by telling me they give 150%. A union member who is being RIFFED from her job told me this last week. I have brought this up before on this blog. The minute you tell me that just makes me believe your work ethic bar is very low. And that you are bad at math.

5. I don't get extreme athleticism. Or adrenaline junkies. Or people who love to live on the edge. I steer clear of all of them.

6. I don't understand how anyone cannot love wine.

7. I don't get how people can get so fat. I am talking about the people who are 600 lbs or something like that who can't leave their house. What's Eating Gilbert Grape's Mom kind of fat. How can anyone eat that much?

8. I don't get those things that young folks put in their ear lobes that put quarter size holes in their ears. I want to remind them all that someday they are going to get old and be sorry they did that. What are those things called anyway?

9. I just finished reading Fifty Shades of Grey. Holy Moly! What a book. Without giving too much away i will say i don't get the attraction. When i was around 14 years old i snuck Valley of the Dolls and Peyton Place to read so i could read all the juicy parts. These books pale so much in comparison to Fifty Shades and i bet lots of 14 year old girls will be doing what i did 40 years ago. (Not to mention all of the men who will be reading it in secret.)

10. I never got the chance to go to college and it pisses me off when kids feel entitled to college and then go off and blow it. (I especially don't get parents who allow it to happen.) If i saved all that money to send my little Roman or Harmony to college and they behaved like jackasses and never studied and only partied and flunked out i would make them pay me back for that year.

11. I don't get why anyone has kids anymore!

What the hell?

Menu of the Day:

What the hell? ....by that i mean Blogger design has been changed up. I hate surprise changes!

What's going on:  A glass of a really great Washington Airfield reserve chardonnay. First glass.

The best thing this week: i bowled a 173 yesterday! My highest game ever. Our team is in first place. I've never gotten first place in anything my whole life! We only have one more week.

What I'm looking forward to: running that race and being done with it.

What I'm not looking forward to: my long long run this weekend. I have a goal to get do 1 hour 45 minutes this weekend.

Book: I am reading Lifeboat. It's new and i think i'm going to like it.

Latest iTunes Purchase: The new song Ooh La La by Counting Crows. I think i'll buy the whole cd.

I have no idea what's on my mind to talk about, so as usual, i am just going to wing it.

***********************************

1. i know the photo doesn't match 'what the hell', but what the hell, cause i don't have a good photo for that.

2. What the hell is going on when someone can access your checking account with just your checking account and router number which is on your check. I had to close my account (after 30 years) because someone was able to access it three times before i was found out.

Lucky for me, i am the kind of person who ALWAYS opens my statements the moment i get them. They were small withdrawals - $120 each time, but i know that many people never look at their statements. So let this be a lesson. Even if you are not like louie and me, (who get our jollies out of balancing our accounts), do at least look at them.

(The biggest hassle is changing all of the stuff that automatically comes out of it. The good news is the fraud expenses were all reversed. It took me half a day to get this all fixed. In the end I sent a thank you card to Melissa who was the bank employee who helped me. She was great!

3. What the hell? Our Catholic churches are circulating Referendum petitions to gather signatures to reverse the same sex marriage law that just passed this last session (thank you Governor Gregoire et al!)

4. What the hell is wrong with us when we get stingy with our kudos? Recently I've been thinking how easy it is to let someone know when they do a good thing.( i.e. like Melissa at my bank), and how far a little gesture can go into making someone feel proud about the work they do. It seems like we've gotten too busy to thank people or let them know when they do a good job. I am going to keep trying to get better at this.

Example at bowling: The waitress for these past two months who waits on us was very pregnant but one of the best waitresses we have ever had in the 5 years i've been on the team. (She was so pregnant that her last week was earlier this month.)

Last night I went around and asked if people wanted to sign a card to her and give a couple of dollars for a baby gift. I ended up getting $108 ! Everybody was so ready to do this for her. She was that good. And people wrote so many nice things to her on the card.

And i was thinking how if i were a waitress and a bowling team sent me a card and money how i would take so much pride in being the best damn waitress ever and how it would motivate me to keep it going. It's such a honor to be recognized. It's too bad we seem to forget to do it and actually have to make a conscience effort to do so. (At least where i work.)

I'll add more later, maybe when i've had more wine. This is boring, but i really needed to change the blog.

What the hell??? i can't even see how to Publish this with the new blogger design screen!!!!!!!!! shit. OOps, i found it.

I can't think of a subject line...

This is a photo i took from Vashon Island from our spring break vacation. We had really good weather, barely any rain, some great wine. I ran 11 miles total (over two days); read three books (Zeitoun, CeeCee's something or other and Conversations with Tom Petty); and I lost two games of gin rummy ($7 total) .

I don't really have anything to say, but it's been awhile since I changed this blog so here i am.

Here's the first gin game i lost. The wine pictured was given to us by Rita and was very good, it's a Malbec by Adagio Reserve - i've only recently been discovering Malbecs. I like venturing out from the regular Cabernets and Syrahs. We also had a great roussane viognier blend one day, but it was a splurge at $30 so i don't even think i want to remember it.

This photo is of a sign that has been in the Vashon cabin since we've been going. I think since around 2006, but i really cannot remember. I just know that we have seen many remodels and changes over the years, mostly all done by Rita's husband Carl, who really seems to know how to do anything.... and i like that they still kept this sign.

Hope everyone is having a great spring! Stop by sometime and tell us what you're up to.

Notes to myself:

Longest run this week: 1 hour, 38 minutes
Sunset: 7:52 pm
Latest iTunes purchase: a band called Alabama Shakes. They're new and very good...especially the lead woman's voice. It sounds a little bit like Janis Joplin. My nephew Brian sent me a YouTube a couple of weeks ago and i really liked them. They have a rather unique sound, though not unlike Black Keys.
Best book I've read lately: Zeitoun was written by Dave Eggers. It's a true story about an American Muslim who rescues dogs and people during Katrina in his canoe only to find himself arrested as a suspect of being Taliban. What happens to him is an outrage that this was only a few years ago.
All time blog views: 27, 145
Page views today: 16
Big deal this week: Today i wore my new open toed shoes that i bought from Garnet Hill. (I am so sick of boots!)
